Our Food Network

Creating food-engaged communities for resilience

Our Food Network aims to stimulate the production, consumption, and distribution of local food in Ōtepoti Dunedin.

For six years, Ahikā provided ‘low-bono’ project management and support for this not-for-profit trust.

Running local projects including the Neighbourhood Food Harvest and Tree Maintenance Programme to ensure fruit from people’s gardens doesn’t go to waste.

We developed the School Garden Resource to help teachers with growing and cooking their own fruit and vegetables with their students, and the Edible Garden Resource for Dunedin families.

As well as project management, we have facilitated the  employment of two part-time garden facilitators: one has been working with Dunedin’s three lowest decile schools since 2020, and the other started in 2022 to work with ten vulnerable families.

Our Food Network is now able to employ its own manager to carry the work forward.
