Liz joined us in 2019 as a writer and project coordinator, bringing her skills and experience in communications, community engagement, technical and popular writing, as well as ecology.  Liz loves to design, write and edit, is driven to create high quality products for her clients, and is dedicated to promoting innovations in sustainable resource use and biodiversity protection. 

With 17 years of experience in conservation communications and content writing, Liz designs and delivers high quality written content for social and traditional media, and multi-media productions.

Liz loves working on the range of innovative and community-focussed sustainability and biodiversity projects which Whirika is involved in. As well as leading Whirika’s communications, Liz coordinates ecological projects. She is currently working on trials for reforesting large areas of land with native seed pods, dispersed via drones, as well as other vegetation monitoring projects where she loves using her plant identification skills. 

Liz has a Master’s degree in Ecology from Otago (2001), and has worked for the Department of Conservation in Otago, Southland and Northland in varied roles but all involving advocacy and collaborative work with landowners, iwi, community groups and NGOs.
