Kimberley joined the Whirika team in 2021, to lead communications and engagement work for Predator Free Dunedin. Her role has since grown to include project management.
With a background in science communication and ecology, she is passionate about telling conservation stories that motivate people to do good and make change.
Kimberley first discovered a passion for conservation when she was a student at Waikato University, completing her undergraduate degree in biological sciences with a focus on behavioural ecology and conservation. She found herself doing a lot of voluntary work to gain experience, which led to stints at Maungatautari Ecosanctuary and on Maud and Codfish Islands, working with kākā and kākāpō.
After completing a Master’s in Science Communication with distinction, she went on to work at Zealandia Ecosanctuary, Forest & Bird, and the Department of Conservation’s Million Dollar Mouse programme on the Antipodes Islands.
She believes communication is critical for conservation and community-based work and that it should be integrated in a strategic way.
Kimberley is a photographer, videography and website whizz. Fronting a campaign is not a problem.
